Recently, I was delighted to read another book by the author and decided to collect all the reviews of her books in one place. They are worthy of attention!
My collection of the author’s books
Feature of Morton’s books
Kate Morton is an Australian writer who writes modern Victorian novels and family sagas. Her books have clear distinguishing features:
love for antiques and architecture. A large place in her romances is occupied by the description of castles, houses with their own history
two timelines: past and present. If you love the Victorian era, then you should definitely read it
Family secrets that are so fascinating to discover
well-written characters
📖 Lake House – Kate Morton
This novel is a mixture of an English detective story and a family saga, capable of breaking your heart into small pieces and putting it back together again in the 💔 finale
The detective investigates the disappearance of a little boy, the son of an aristocratic family, which happened more than sixty years ago. And everything goes to such a denouement that you hold your breath when you read and clench your teeth. Because it was F-U-T-K-O to imagine that everything would turn out to be true…
The book has a very atmospheric English country mansion, with secret passages, a wonderful garden and a lake.
We learn the history of an English aristocratic family, get imbued with their bohemian image, the interweaving of family secrets. And with bated breath, we are waiting for the denouement of the plot.
My favorite book from the author!
📖 Distant Hours – Kate Morton
An ancient castle and the secrets of three sisters.
It all begins with a missing letter, which found its addressee after a long half a century. The mother of the main character receives a letter from one of the mistresses of Mailderhurst Castle. And her reaction to it is unusual. My daughter had not seen her so upset and sobbing for a very long time. And after a while, finding herself near this strange castle, intertwined with the past of Edith’s mother, the girl decides to look into it and find out what secrets are kept behind its dilapidated walls and how her mother is connected with them.
There will be a tragic story of the life of the owner of the castle, the writer Raymond Blythe, the story of writing his most famous fairy tale book about the Slyakontnik, the secrets of his three daughters, who have already turned into ancient old women.
And also a castle.
He has seen hundreds of people who have absorbed their stories and their characters. The shadows in it are almost alive and tangible. He looks like a rotten old man who has outlived many people and is tired of his fate as a long-liver.
A very unhurried book-chest of secrets.
📖The Forgotten Garden – Kate Morton.
At first, the plot unfolds slowly, like a London fog, gradually thickening and enveloping the city. And you, the reader, will wander through it blindly and stumble upon small puzzles of the plot, put them in your pocket and wait for the opportunity to assemble a complete picture.
And when the puzzle in your head comes together, you are surprised at the unfolding scale of the plot.
It covers three timelines: 1913, 1900 and 2005.
A century-old history of one family, unfolding on two continents – Australia and England. Full of secrets, unexpected twists, tragedies and joys, ups and downs.
Scrupulously written characters, the setting of different eras and a colorful atmosphere. The impression is as if you are watching a film made by one of the great directors. Not a single superfluous character, not a single secondary detail. Every word is weighed and in its place. If at first it seems that nothing is clear, many secondary, and seemingly unnecessary people are described. Then by the middle, each character finds his place in the story.

It will appeal to lovers of English fairy tales, family sagas and neo-Gothic novels in the style of Diana Setterfield.
📖 When the fog lifts – Kate Morton.
Fans of the series “Downton Abbey” must read.
The novel has an interesting premise. The film company decides to make a film about the story of aristocratic sisters, in whose estate the famous young poet Robert S. Hunter committed suicide. History is overgrown with many secrets! He is credited with having a relationship with both sisters and his suicide was committed on this basis. What really happened, we learn from the memoirs of Grace, who worked as a maid at the Riverton estate from 1914 to 1925.
This is a great family drama, well-designed and with an unobtrusive atmosphere of sadness and mystery.
